Blame it on the Rain Event
Dear Friends,

It’s safe to say that no one is more heartbroken over the cancellation of this year’s race than us. It seems cruel to have to cancel something that has been a year in the making. We take great pride in wanting to offer our runners a truly unique experience that compares to no other race in Chicago and beyond. So as you can imagine, we can’t help but feel sad that we didn’t get to showcase the full spirit of the Carrera this morning.

We’ve been blessed throughout these 10 years that we’ve never had to cancel any Carrera, until today. Not only was water accumulating rapidly under a few of the underpasses connected to the route, but lightning was also in the area. Runner, volunteer and staff safety are supremely important to us and ultimately we had to make the painful decision to cancel this year’s race.

A few things that we wanted to share with you:

  1. If you did not get a chance to pick up your medal this morning during the monsoon, do not worry. We will be organizing some “medal pickup” dates soon and will post the info on Facebook as well as send an email.
  2. “Will the race be rescheduled for another date?”
Unfortunately this cannot be done. In the perfect world we would reschedule for the following day or weekend, but the logistics and permit process is quite complicated. As we stated earlier, the race is several months in the making.
  3. “Will there be a fun run at all so that we can run through the neighborhood?”
We are already in early talks with a few of our community partners to see if we can organize a casual run ending at a local spot (and offer 1 free beer, just like the Carrera).
  4. If you weren’t able to join us this morning and did not pick up your packet, please send us a direct Facebook message or email us so we can go over pickup details with you.
  5. “Since this year’s race was cancelled will there be a discount code given to 2017 Carrera runners for next year’s race?”
ABSOLUTELY! Whenever 2018 information gets posted, we will notify everyone.

Once again thank very much for understanding. We can’t thank you enough for your continued and valued support. To say that we are blessed to have the best runners in the world is an understatement.

We’ll be posting more information in the coming days. For now, please stay dry. Nos vemos pronto. Muchas Gracias.
